Remembering Why I Started

This month marks year four of Bisby Candles. I will never forget my late night google searches (feeling completely lost) trying to figure out how I was going to make $300 last just long enough to fill orders and buy more materials. There is so much I would love to share with you about the business of Bisby Candles, the ups and the downs, the doubts, the "I quit" moments, and the "this is amazing" moments.

But that's not why I am writing you today, I'm writing to tell you I found my way back to my roots. Back to the reason I started the business in the first place, back to a place I know you will love. When I officially started Bisby Candles, I had just returned from a month in Italy, with a side trip to Singapore and Bali (where I fell in love with my now husband, but again, that is another story). Once I returned I wanted to make every candle a perfect representation of where I had been. I wanted the fresh salty smell of Venice, Italy, I wanted the enchanting smell of floral prayer offerings from Bali, my senses were spinning and I couldn't wait to share my travels through the candles. Over the years, as all business do, we flowed and changed. Some for the better (anyone remember the spray paint!?) but some changes left me feeling unanchored.

I don't want to sell you candles, anyone can make a candle, I want to take you on a journey, to partake in an experience. I want you to cozy up in bed with a good book, light our Marrakech candle, and be transported to the souk and the smell of artifacts and spices.I want you to come home from a day at work and light our Buenos Aires candle, and thoughts of fruit vendors and sea salt take you over.  I don't make candles just because I can, I make them because I have a story to tell, a narrative to weave, and I want that story to be your story too.

As always, thank you for your support!
